Day 7: Floyd, VA to Sparta, NC

TheOldSheppard linked up with us that morning, having flow from New Mexico to Indiana then driving hard on the VStrom 650 to meet us.

A truly brilliant morning leaving Floyd, VA with great coffee stops, first at Red Rooster Coffee. Without question, today stands in my memory over a year later as the best day of riding on the trip. Iconic Virginia backcountry roads that were engaging, fun, and in places very technically demanding. Wolf Creek Rd, VA-16, and Nebo Mountain Rd stand out as favorites.

After a Team Strange 2024 top in Riner, VA, we continued for coffee to The Well in Tazewell, VA. After that we entered the famous “Back of the Dragon” and on to Nebo Mountain Rd. For a short time, we got split up, utilizing our Zoleo to coordinate a link up.


After a short stop at Fox Creak Leather, we crossed the VA/NC border and made our to Sparta, NC for the evening.
